Mini JAG got back just as I was finished so we sat and watched Christmas with the Kranks. Yes. In November. I absolutely adore Christmas movies - they are my guilty pleasure. I have been known to close the curtains and sit and watch them in the middle of summer. We've seen Christmas with the Kranks a million times already but it's one of our favourites, it's such a feel good film.
After that, I popped up to Sainsbury to buy some essentials, got back and ate lunch (which was different to what I had planned!) then sat and watched my beloved Chelsea FC beat Manchester United - woohoo!
Some weeks ago, I bought some Zip n Steam bags with my weekly food shopping. I've only just got around to trying them out and I am absolutely converted!
If you haven't heard of them before, this is what the website has to say:
A fast, healthy steam cooking system that keeps the taste and the natural goodness in your food. Particularly suitable for fresh and frozen vegetables, fish and chicken fillets.
Each bag contains a vent that allows the food to be steamed under pressure in a microwave oven. Quick and simple to use, these bags cook food thoroughly and evenly from fresh or frozen, retaining more of the flavour and goodness of the food than any other cooking method. You don’t even have to wash up afterwards!
I will definitely be using them on a regular basis, they will be great to take to work so that I can eat a cooked meal rather than relying on salads all the time.
Food for today:
B: 2 eggs, 6 egg whites scrambled with 2 slices wholemeal seeded toast
S: 1 scoop protein shake, 1 packet Nakd lemon raisins (post workout)
L: 150g Greek yoghurt with 1/2 scoop whey, 80g blueberries & crumbled cocoa loco Nakd bar
S: Cinnamon & Raisin bagel

I'm very interested in the zip and steam bags JAG...where did you get them please?....Chabs
Chabs, I bought mine from Sainsbury, only £1.49 for 10 bags. They were with all the food bags, etc.
Thanks...great....off to get some tonight after gym.....:)
LOL would you be shocked to hear that I, Queen of all the Kitchen Gimmicky Gadget things have a stash of these bags...;)
I used to use them the whole time for veg and the odd time for my nemesis (fish) but then I got an actual microwave steamer and used that mostly for veg. Never thought about using them for chicken, must keep that in mind. :)
You know, if I had to guess which oy my blog readers already had them it would be you, you are indeed, Queen of all things Kitcheny :)
ooh, I've got those zip and steam bags, I think I've only used them once though as a) I keep forgetting they're there, b) I quite often buy frozen veg in ready-to-steam plastic bags and c) I'm still trying to justify my buying a 'compact steamer' to my other half!! xx
Broken YoYo I am *forever* buying stuff and then forgetting it's there. I now make a point of having a "sort through" of random drawers every month or so to make sure I am getting use out of it. Otherwise it's not exactly money well spent!
TJ, I've never bought the frozen veg bags, does it work out as value for money? The reason I ask is that I often buy tons of veg but it often goes bad before I get chance to use it all.
Deise, I do that too, I bought them months ago but kept forgetting about them.
yeah I'd definitely say the individual bags are worth it... you get a decent amount of veg, it steams in the microwave so you lose no vitamins like when you boil it in water
plus it's frozen and would hopefully have been frozen quickly before it lost its nutrients
and they're good if you've forgotten to get fresh stuff, you look in the freezer et voila! there's a ready packet of frozen goodness :-D x
