Don’t you just love post-workout pump?

I just finished my upper back and shoulders workout and my arms feel like over-cooked noodles. They are shaking and I have no strength whatsoever. My muscle pump is fabulous though!
Sorry for the blurred face, mini JAG was my photographer!
A highly experience trainer said to me ‘think about it – its in the governments interest to let you kill yourself slowly with over processed unnatural foods, intially you need ant-acid tablets and tummy settlers to help you deal with it, over time you may develop a long term illness (type two diabeties or high blood pressure or high cholresterol), so that keeps the medical industry in business, and that keeps the countrys GDP up and lots of people in employment’. It might seem cynical, but why hasn’t our nanny state government stepped in and cracked down on the junk on the supermarket shelves, instead it offers stomach stapling ops.
Naturally, there are people that believe whatever our government tell us, regardless of whether this information is backed up by research, or that there are hundreds of studies to counter what the government say. What do I say? Read lots of different research sources, don’t just believe it because the FSA or the WHO tell us and draw your own conclusions.
Today has been a great day. After working til 11am, I spent the rest of the day just me and Mini JAG and I have to admit, it has been sheer bliss. Working so much lately, I haven’t really had much time for him so it was nice to spend some quality time together. Our relationship is fantastic and we get on so well, even though he is becoming a moody teenager. Being able to remember what my teens were like and how moody I got enables me to sympathise with him so I don’t give him any grief if he is feeling a bit blerugh, I tend to just leave him to get on with it and he appreciates that.
So many parents get on their kid’s backs over the tiniest things – I see enough of it in my job, like the child that was told to “f***ing shut up” the other week, simply because he asked his mum as they entered the surgery if he could use the toilet! I have a very relaxed parenting style, have taught my son the rights and wrongs, instilled in him respect and good morals. I rarely have to raise my voice at him and would never even dream of laying a finger on him. It has proven effective so far – we talk about absolutely anything and he has never brought me any trouble whatsoever. He’s a good kid and I am extremely proud of him.
We went to the cinema today and watched Alvin & the Chipmunks 2 – it was a cute film and mini JAG really enjoyed it. I was a naughty naughty girl and indulged in a little of his popcorn, even though I packed my own, healthy lunchbox full of snacks!
Food for the rest of the day has been ok, though due to my popcorn intake, I didn’t eat dinner as I was bloated too badly! It did energise me for my workout though – silver lining and all that!
I started off the day off with berocca, green tea & porridge, which I completely forgot to photograph until I had half eaten it.
It was delicious though and was made up of 50g organic jumbo oats, 300ml skimmed milk, 10g coconut, 1 scoop chocolate whey, dollop Greek yoghurt, blackberries & pecans – yum!
For lunch, I ate a wholemeal pitta filled with a can of tuna and a sprinkling of grated cheese. The pitta was still warm from being under the grill so the cheese went melty – lovely.
Mid afternoon, I snacked on my healthy lunchbox and some of mini JAG’s sweet popcorn from the cinema. I did take him for a once in a blue moon KFC afterwards (yeah, I know it’s crap but it’s a very very rare treat for him) and didn’t eat anything – go me!
When I got home, I did some household chores and then kicked my butt upstairs to train my back and shoulders. I haven’t trained back and shoulders in such a long time and the only exercise I have been doing for my shoulders recently is military press. As a result, my shoulder strength is severely lacking! I checked back through my workbook and my weights are lower than I was lifting last year so this is something to work on.
Here is my workout:
DB Shoulder Press: 9kg – 8, 6, 6
Lateral Raises: 6kg – 6, 6, 5
Upright Row: 20kg – 8, 8, 6
Barbell bent Over Row: 30kg – 6, 6, 6
Pull Ups – Negatives Only: 4, 4, 4 – pathetic!
I made up a protein shake with 2 scoops of strawberry whey & a tsp of honey post workout.
Nutritional breakdown:

Carbs: 194g (39.7%)

F&V: 3 – Promise I will do better tomorrow – seriously lacking f&v due to desperately needing to do my farm shop trip
Drinks: 1.7L water, 5 cups green tea
Exercise: Weights – Back & Shoulders
I didn’t bother wearing my HRM for exercising as I am slightly over my calorie count this week so far. I know if I had worn it and added them to my exercise diary, me being the greedy mare that I am, I would have eaten them!
