Update on the over-cooked noodles

Posted at 20:40 in Uncategorised

After my long overdue back & shoulders workout lastnight, I am suffering with the worst DOMS I have had in a long time.  Each time I lift my arms, I get the biggest wave of nausea wash over me – it isn’t pleasant!  You guys know, I normally love my DOMS but this is just too much.  I’m really hoping it eases up soon.

We had a lovely day today, though my food has been poor.  Good choices but just not enough of it!

I had planned to get up and have a run this morning but Mr JAG didn’t want to go.  I don’t like running through the woods alone so I decided I would go for a road run.  That was until I got up, opened the curtains and saw everywhere white over.  Yes, it was snowing.  So, I decided against it as I didn’t want to risk falling over – our pavements are all tarmac and it gets treacherous under foot when it’s snowy.

We went to the farm shop again and this time, it was a lot quieter.  The car park was packed out though so I can only imagine everyone was in the lovely country kitchen – the restaurant where they make home-cooked meals with their own meat and vegetable produce.

I forgot to take my camera with me so don’t have any pictures for you.  I bought a load of fruit and veg again though:

1lb Wiltshire baked ham
1lb traditional pork sausage
1lb dry cured back bacon
5kg potatoes
1 large head of broccoli
1 cauliflower
4 parsnips
10 carrots
HUGE bag of mushrooms
8 red onions
3 peppers
2 bunches spring onions
6 large tomatoes on the vine
1 large bag green grapes
1 large bag red grapes
5 gala apples
1 bag frozen blueberries
1 bag frozen blackcurrants
1 jumbo bulb of garlic

As usual, the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful and I was served by two very nice (and handsome!) young men, one who entered into the till what I had bought and the other who very kindly packed my bags for me – what service!

I have to admit, I absolutely love my trip to the farm shop and on the way there today, I was memorising the route so that if ever the car packs up and I can’t get there, I at least know the way and would be able to make it there, partly on the bus and walking the rest of the way.

After that, we went ice skating as we had promised mini JAG that we would go today.  Mr JAG & I have never EVER ice skated before though I was awesome on roller skates when I was a kid!  Mini JAG has been before but only once a few years ago.

We were feeling a bit nervous that we would look stupid and be falling all over the place but guess what?!  I must be a natural because I took a few tentative steps, then off I whizzed.  And I DIDN’T FALL OVER ONCE! Go me!

It was so much fun and such a good workout, my heart was racing and I was so hot even though it’s cold in there.  I can’t wait to go again!

I have some news – I have set myself a new challenge!

I have entered the Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon on 3rd July!  I was chatting to a lovely girl over on WLR and she does it each year.  She wondered would I be interested in doing it, so I thought why the hell not?

It sounds like a lovely run:

A basically flat route following the towpath alongside the canals that connect the two Cities. Arguably, it is a downhill route with the only “lumps” being the locks and bridges that cross intersections. These “lumps” do get more frequent towards the latter stages of the run, making it perhaps a little tougher than it may seem. The 360yard long tunnel at Coseley is an “entertaining” feature enjoyed by some, hated by others but remembered by all. Completely off road and traffic free. You should be aware that the surface varies from well tended gravel paths and brick paving to un-kept surfaces – largely what you might encounter on any off road run.

I can’t wait!  I do however, have some serious training to put in now.  My current distance is at a paltry 4.5 miles – I have to treble that in time for July!  So, I have to be strict with myself now and make sure I do 3 runs per week and 3 strength training sessions per week.

Onto today’s food.

Breakfast was berocca, green tea & porridge.  My porridge was made with my usual jumbo oats, skimmed milk, chocolate whey & topped with Greek yoghurt, blackberries & pecans.

We were out at lunchtime so I didn’t get to eat anything.  I did have a cocoa loco Nakd bar in my bag though, which I ate.  No camera though so no picture.

When I got home, I was packing away the farm shop goodies and couldn’t resist trying out the ham.  I try not to eat too many processed meats but ham is my downfall.  I only tend to eat ham fresh from a butcher as I can’t really stomach the supermarket pre-packed stuff.  I munched my way though about 3 slices before I made myself put it away!

Dinner was a HUGE omelette, made with 2 eggs, 4 egg whites, mushrooms and red onions, 20g grated cheese & 100g chopped ham.  I served it with chopped tomato.
