Climb every mountain

Posted at 21:48 in Competition, Food, Personal, Training

Happy Thursday blog land, did you all have a good day?

This will be the last chance to enter my Magic Bullet Blender giveaway so if you haven’t already entered, submit your favourite healthy smoothie recipe here! I will be forwarding all of your fantastic ideas to the lovely people at magic bullet who will be selecting the winners. Good luck everyone!

I am super happy to report that my back is feeling a LOT better and my leg pain has eased up a lot too. I’m wondering if the leg pain was something to do with my back, maybe a nerve problem?

I’ve mobilised as much as possible today and made sure I’ve not sat for too long and it’s definitely helped. I am now hopeful that I will be able to complete my long run on Sunday.

The husband and I have also decided to climb Snowdon on bank holiday Monday. It’s something we planned to do late last year but didn’t get around to doing it. Have any readers every climbed Snowdon?

I’m really looking forward to it as it’s something completely different and outside of my comfort zone. I love a new challenge and the husband said we are choosing a more difficult route rather than the easy path so it should be fun. Of course, I will take my camera with me so you lovely folks can see the journey :-)

If you recall, I posted about Inspiration the other day and I mentioned creating an inspiration board. I think I’m going to give this a try. I’m currently searching out inspirational and motivational images and phrases to stick on it and I’m going to hang it in the kitchen where I will see it often – not sure the husband will appreciate it hanging in the living room!

Food today has been good. I very nearly gave in and ate chips from the chip shop for dinner but the thought of having to post here that I ate them was enough to stop me hahaha! I’ve really got to get my eating under control a little better – I’m not choosing as wisely as I normally do and as a result, I’m feeling yucky. I think the worst thing I could have done was buy more rice crackers – those bad boys tempt me like nothing else! I think I will be donating them to someone else so they aren’t hanging around in my kitchen.

Breakfast was the usual porridge, topped with Greek yoghurt, raspberries & pecans.

Mid morning was apple with cinnamon & maca and a skimmed latte.

Lunch was a bowl of leftover bolognese – yum!

Afternoon snacks were rice crackers and a pumpkin 9bar.

As I had snacked late in the afternoon, come dinner time I wasn’t actually that hungry, regardless of my mind tricking me into thinking I wanted chips. Thank goodness I resisted!

I decided to make up a smoothie, containing 1.5 scoops protein powder, 300ml skimmed milk & a bunch of frozen summer berries – delicious and so thick my straws stood up in it. The frozen berries gave it a lovely slushy consistency.

I’m really looking forward to the bank holiday weekend! My plans include:

Great weekend plans! I just remembered that my brother and sister are both over to see my folks tomorrow and we are getting our hair done – hurrah! I love having my hair done, it’s one of my luxuries :)

Good luck with the run on Sunday and enjoy the show, I’m sure Kmac will be awesome! Where is she btw? Not seen her around for a while.

Loving the raspberries on porridge, so delicious :D

she’s been busy with show week but no doubt we’ll get an update from her next week – she’s running Sun too so she’ll have tonnes to blog about.

I need a hair cut too but it’s just at the right length to tie back at the moment so I think I’ll wait till after the half marathon!

        Have a fantastic weekend x

My best mate ran London marathon on Sunday…. so I’m taking her out for some well deserved wine on Saturday night!
    I can’t wait!!

    • Just a Girl says:

Wow, respect to your friend, I can’t imagine running a full marathon! Enjoy the wine on Saturday :D

That smoothie looks delicious! I love the idea of an inspiration board, I’ve used them before for things like interior decorating or to think of how an outfit will look, but I’d never thought of one for keeping me motiovated around my fitness / body goals. I have loads of old magazines so I think I might spend a little time this weekend if we get this rain thats forecast :-( and sit and try and pull something together!

The smoothie was lush, took ages to drink as it was soooooo thick! I’ve already started choosing pics for my inspiration board, can’t wait to make it. I have a folder that I set up ages ago but I think having something visible, in front of you to see daily, will be a lot better. Great idea from Fitnessista :D

Oooh I have been up Snowdon, it was a long time ago, but I can’t think that it has changed much ;-)
You will love it, it is beautiful.
This weekend I have 2 runs and a 10K row planned, also my OH’s Mum is hopefully coming out of hospital, so our lives may be a bit more ‘back to normal’ than the last month or so, here’s hoping anyway!

ahh, that’s better, my profile is now linked to my eBlogger one, I wondered what was happening there for a minute!

    • Just a Girl says:

Thanks for sharing mate, it’s appreciated :) Enjoy your runs and your rowing, I really hope I don’t have to do my long run in the rain *crosses fingers*

Hope your lives get back to some sort of normality now :)

Nice to hear your feeling better, I forgot to post this yesterday but from what you’ve said it sounds like sciatica – I had it a couple of years ago the pain went from my mid/lower back all the way down my right leg – its quiet shocking the impact a trapped never can have – but then again I was an idiot and ingnored the niggling back pain pushed through it and ended up making it a lot worse!

When I did some power training a couple of months back, my back locked up for a few hours, I think it was protecting itself from any further abuse. Luckily it only lasted that afternoon/evening and the next day was a lot better, jsut complaining a bit rather than locked out.

Scared my training partner for my PT course as I came up positive on the basic static tests for sciatica – she was like are you going to go to the doctor, my reaction was there’s nothing they can do and to be honest compared to what it was like its not really an issue – except there are a couple of spine mobility exercises I just cannot do, on the right side, lefts fine, the right screams no leave me alone! I am working on improving this if I never use my corrective exercise training on anyone else its already paid for itself through me using it on me – The positive result did mean I became the guinuea pig for the rest of the class to see what a positive reaciton to the tests looked like!

I would suggest at the very least on Monday pack some iburophen, just incase you have a flare up- hopefully you won’t but its better to be prepared – and no loading all the weight your carrying onto one shoulder.

Oh this may seem crazy but take a cucumber, they are light easy to carry and a fab source of water – this is something one of the trainers who does a lot of hiking reccomended.

    • Just a Girl says:

Hey lovely, thanks so much for the useful information. I don’t think it’s sciatica, it was the same sort of pain that I had last time and the osteopath ruled out sciatica. I think the leg pain was probably a symptom of how I had been holding myself to try and keep the pressure off my back IYKWIM?

It’s all back to normal again now thankfully. I will continue working to increase my core strength, it has improved a lot over the last 12 months and that has helped to strengthen my back.

Unfortunately, I can’t tolerate anti inflammatories as I suffer with reflux problems and they bring on an attack but I will pack the paracetamol. We’re taking a ruck sack so I will let the husband be the man and carry it.

Never thought of the cucumber idea, genius!

    Hi Jag
Yes I have done snowdon, its a fantastic experience, don’t forget to get a T shirt Ha Ha Its a silly thing but I had more aches coming down that going up… views are incredible, make sure you go to the loo though, they leave a little to be desired
    Enjoy
    Sue X

    • Just a Girl says:

Oooh, I didn’t know they did t-shirts! Can’t wait to see the views, I really hope it’s a clear day. Will definitely heed your advice about the loo, I’m pretty squeamish where toilet business is concerned :)

    Hey :)

I came across your website recently, and oh my god are you motivation for clean eating and working out consistently or what?! Thanks for being so inspiring. Take care xx

    • Just a Girl says:

Hey chick, thanks so much for reading! Clean eating and working out really do work :) Hope you stick around xx

I did the snowdon international fell run in 2007. It was 5 mile run up to the summit and another 5 miles back down. It was very painful and I couldnt walk for about three weeks after plus saw some nasty falls. Excellent scenery though, when I managed to look up!

    • Just a Girl says:

Wow, that sounds flipping hard core! But also the sort of thing I’d love to do hahaha! I can’t imagine how much pain you must have been in – would you do it again?

      • chrisse says:

Yes was going to do it this year but decided to leave it maybe till next. Would recommend it as its def an experience.

        • Just a Girl says:

I’m thinking about training for it and giving it a try next year, I’d probably be last though!
