An awesome day

Posted at 21:34 in Food, Personal, Running

Happy hump day bloggies, I hope you all had a day as equally as awesome as mine :-)

I woke this morning feeling like I had barely slept even though I slept soundly all night and didn’t even wake up until my alarm went off.  It’s how I’ve been feeling the last few days and it’s driving me mad!  I didn’t think I would make it past 10am at work but thankfully, the time flew by!

As you all know, I’ve been missing my mojo for a while.  I’m motivated to run and my food is still pretty good but my weights have been severely lacking for a long time.  The husband and I have been considering joining a gym together and have been promising to go and check it out before signing up but it’s something that never happens.  Deep down, the husband just isn’t into weights and I know this, which is why when he doesn’t mention going to sign up, I let it go because I don’t want to pressure him into it.

Anyway, today, I was sitting in my little room at work, thinking about my flagging motivation and I gave myself a big kick up the arse.  I know what the solution to my motivation is – I need the gym as training at home just doesn’t cut it.  Whilst I can motivate myself perfectly well to get out and run, forcing myself upstairs to hit the weights is another matter entirely.  There are always other distractions at home, such as the computer or the tv, chores, playing PS3 with mini JAG or just chatting to the husband.  I’m a natural procrastinator anyway, which is a trait I REALLY hate about myself, so training at home, in hindsight, was a huge mistake.

So, I took the plunge and emailed my old gym.  When I left, I didn’t leave on good terms as I didn’t give them a month’s notice, which I know was wrong but the husband and I were separated and cash was really tight.  I explained the circumstances in my email, without going into too much detail, and said that I would like to re-join.  Within half an hour, they had telephoned me and said that they understood and would waive the month’s membership that I owed them, which I thought was really nice of them.  They also said that they would only charge me £10 to re-join which made me super happy!

So, I finished work at 1pm, had a lovely walk in the sunshine down to the gym and signed back up – it was so good to be back!

Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to stay for a workout as mini JAG was due home from school and he didn’t have his key but I have my bag all ready to take to work with me tomorrow and I will go straight from work.  I’m taking my swimsuit so I can lounge in the sauna afterwards too – woohoo!

After I got home, I did a few chores and waited for the husband to come home from work as we had planned a run together.  The husband loves running but is a sporadic runner and isn’t as fit as I am.  As a result we do tend to run a little slower than I would if I were running on my own but I was really shocked to see tonight, at running 10 minute miles, my heart rate was averaging 135!  I can’t believe how much fitter I have become – I was chatting most of the way to the husband without getting out of breath whereas not so long ago, 10 minute mile pace would have left me feeling quite breathless.

My maximum heart rate was 172 and that was when I finished off with a super sprint down the lane to my house – hurrah for progress!

I took my phone with me on the run to get a few pics of the scenery but we didn’t run far enough to see my favourite stretch of canal, which is so picturesque.

This is the start of our trail…

This opens out into a lovely field and leads down towards the canal…

I’ll be sure to take it with me again on Sunday and get some better pictures for you :-)

Food today has been good with no naughty treats, which is what has been letting me down recently.  Now my motivation has come flooding back the urge to eat crap has disappeared – hurrah!  My macros are not the best but I’m not going to fret over that today as I am just happy I ate good food all day, though I did eat porridge for 2 meals!

I started off the day with a bowl of Bounty Porridge.  I got this idea from a girl named Anna that used to post on WLR and basically, it is porridge made with coconut and chocolate.  I made mine using 2 tbsp of raw dark chocolate and almond spread – divine!

Mid morning, I had a latte made with semi-skimmed milk…

Lunch was a wholemeal pitta filled with a tin of tuna and served with a mixed salad…

Mid afternoon, I snacked on 2 babybel light and a Dr Karg cracker for some pre-run fuel…

I was planning a chilli for dinner but by the time we got back from our run, the husband only had an hour before he had to leave to pick up mini JAG from cadets so I made a bowl of mocha porridge – lazy cah!

Love it that the hubby isn’t as fit as you….keeps them on their toes doesn’t it? Sure he is very proud to have a fit wife though.

It’s weird how we chop and change isn’t it? I’ve gotta sort a routine now that isn’t going to interfere with my running as that is most important to me at the moment due to the upcoming races. I’m thinking one lower body session & 2 upper per week until after my half marathons.

Feels good to be back into it, I see you had an awesome run tonight, well done lovely xx

Thanks Laura, I’m so glad I started running that trail. I used to run the roads but it was so uninspiring, now I really look forward to getting out there :-)

Oh I absolutely love the look of that trail! Lovely scenery is just priceless.

Great that the gym were good about taking you back, but at the same time it’s in their best interests in this economy to be understanding!! :)
