Sweet dreams aren’t made of this…

Posted at 21:39 in Food, Running

I had the most awful dream last night – that I missed my 10k on Sunday!  In my crazy dream, the race was held in the evening rather than the morning and an hour before I was due to leave, I thought it was a great idea to have a snooze without setting my alarm, cue me awaking (in my dream) when it was dark and sobbing because I had missed it.  The panic I felt was so real and I felt really gutted when I woke up until I realised I had been dreaming!

Does anyone else get these kinds of dreams before races?  Is it something for me to look forward to before every race?

A massive big thanks for all the time you guys have taken to offer advice and support – I really appreciate every single comment that I receive, both here and via email.  You are all amazing!

I was planning to have my final workout at the gym tomorrow but I decided to leave it and rest my body now.  I already have DOMS and I had a slow 3 mile run earlier today with the husband which has helped to loosen them up a little.  Instead of hitting the gym tomorrow, I have my very first sports massage! A lovely reader suggested a massage to help prepare my muscles for the race and I managed to find a sports masseuse only a half an hour walk from where I live!  He is a sports therapist and runs an injury clinic from home so I decided to give him a ring.  He was super helpful and went into great detail about what sports massage is, what it can do and how it benefits the body.  I didn’t hesitate and booked an appointment for tomorrow afternoon.  He said the massage he was going to give me was a little more brisk than a regular sports massage in order to fully prepare my muscles for Sunday’s race.  He said it would involve lots of deep tissue massage and plenty of stretching – I’m looking so forward to it!

I’ll give a full write up here on the blog tomorrow so watch this space.

I’ve been inundated with lots of lovely requests from folk wanting to see foxy Gym Ninja’s pictures from her photo shoot.  She thinks I have over-hyped her but trust me, I really have not!  She does look amazing.  We all know from reading her blog how hard she works at keeping herself in shape and she really is a fantastic advert for getting back what you put in.  She is a perfect advertisement for her budding personal training business.

Food today has been utterly wonderful!

The day started off with mocha porridge, topped with Greek yoghurt, blackberries, dates & pecans…

Mid morning was a skimmed latte…

Lunch was supposed to be an omelette with salad.  However, I decided to go for a walk up to Sainsbury with my lovely mum after work so I picked up a sushi selection, a fruit salad and a couple of multi seeded pretzels.  I realised at the time I had left my phone at work so my mum let me use her phone for the picture which I then text to myself but sadly, it came out really small.  Still, you get the idea…

I didn’t eat anything mid afternoon as I was still stuffed from lunch.

Dinner was inspired by the lovely Tami at Nutmeg Notebook having seen the amazing burger that she made for dinner yesterday.  I decided I just had to have one!

I got some delicious burgers from Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Range…

I don’t  ever eat pre-made burgers as I choose to make my own but the ingredient list on these was really not so bad!  I grilled one, topped it with extra mature cheddar, sauteed red onion and mushrooms and served it on a mixed olive ciabatta roll – divine!

I served it with some home made potato wedges…

Hey I am so glad you were inspired by my quick dinner of burgers. Yours looks awesome as well! I don’t usually buy the pre – made patties either but sometimes you just need to go the quick route.

You have some of the cutest dishes. I really want new dinner plates and can’t decide if I want square ones or the traditional round ones. I bought one square dish just to check out if I like eating off that shape and also to have for food photos. I like the little floral design on your plate.

I hate dreams like that. Here is wishing you a restful nights sleep!

Hi Tami, thanks. I love my plates and dishes, I’m always looking out for new snazzy ones :-D I much prefer square plates, I find you can get more on them without food falling off the sides – that might just be me though, my portion sizes do tend to be on the large side ;)

I slept much better last night :)

Enjoy the massage, but be prepared for PAIN; I always find deep tissue massage uncomfortable at best and eyewatering at worst. I’m quite tight and knotty, especially in my back, which admittedly doesn’t help though!

It does feel great afterwards, and it’s definitely good pre-event prep.

Thanks geeky, I’m expecting it to hurt, everything I have read said how sore it makes you but I reckon it will definitely help me prepare for Sunday

      xx

Aw no I hate dreams like that! The kind where you spend half the morning reassuring yourself that it was only a dream.

The sports massage sounds really interesting- I look forward to seeing how you get on!

They’re really horrible aren’t they? When you wake up unsure of whether it actually happened or not?

I’m excited about the massage, will fill you in when I get back

      x
